Instructions for waterlily plate
by Joanna Burch
Water lilies are blocked in in a grayed green (black green+blue) or
grayed purple (violet of iron+blue). Then the petal highlights are wiped out.
The second fire the petals are tinted with the rose color
The third fire the inside shadows are deepened with the blue or purple shadow color.
Centers are just a light yellow deepened with yellow brown.
In the water I have used some of the same colors that are used in the flowers, but more blue.
Also add a little blue that has some green in it, then on the second fire you can add the pink or purple or ruby that you added to the flower.
The shadow under the flower that is cast onto the leaf is is your blue-greens and some of your pinks from your flower.
Leaves are any of your greens and the underside of leaf is a gold green or add some yellow brown to one of your mid-greens and shade with a black green or one of your dark cooler greens.
The background was done with a lemon yellow.
The rim of the plate was in a golden yellow.
Scrollwork is from Paula Collins' book.
